Solving The Problem

1). Selected Opportunity: People in the United States who go fishing are unable to buy affordable fishing rod transportation racks because of the expensive versions that are on the market.

2). Product/Service: My product is a fishing rod rack used for transportation in vehicles. There are many versions of this product, similar to the one shown below. However, these different versions are made of metal and more expensive woods which drive the price up and are unnecessary. My product is similar to these in design but will be made out of a cheaper material that gets the job done, such as a sturdy plastic or rubber, making it much cheaper than those currently on the market. It will not be as nice as a lot of the models for sale, but its price will open it up to a lot of people who previously would not have spent a significant amount of money on a similar product. I would also like to have a version that fits into truck beds rather than the roof of a car for the same purpose.

  1. I think you have a really great solution in mind, as someone who likes to go fishing as well as being on a budget this would defiantly have a market. My only thing with this is if it hasn't been done already there must be a reason right? Like if I don't have one and just lay them in my car or in the bed of a truck and their fine, so how would you address this issue, and persuade customers that they should really invest in this solution?

  2. Because of my current amount of experience in product development, I believe that you can make something very similar to the pictured product using polyethylene which can be made to be UV resistant. This would look great and would probably suit your target market. I do agree with Christina's comment on verifying the demand for the product since it's a product that already exists in different forms and prices.

  3. Hi Brandon! I think this is a great idea and love your thought process behind making it more affordable to the average person. Can I suggest something? In thinking of a cheaper material for creating this product, why not use recycled plastics? That way with every product you sell, you would be cleaning up the exact areas where people are planning to fish in!

  4. Hey Brandon! I think your opportunity for a portable fishing ride is a very good idea that is really interesting. Although I do not have much experience I think this idea is a good one and can be used around the world especially if you were to use the cheaper material that you talked about. Also I liked how you talked about making the product useful for trucks too. Great Work

  5. Hi Brandon,

I love fishing and couldn't agree with you more! I always had to stow my rods in the trunk just laying down and subject to being knocked around and damaged. The current options available just aren't affordable for what they do, and if this solution is able to be made viable, I would be interested in buying one for sure.
